A man was fined $5,000 by a city court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to assaulting his roommate.
Abdool Alfred appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge to him.
The charge stated that on June 30, 2022, at Albouystown, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Davindra Boodhanlall. Alfred pleaded guilty and was fined $5,000, with an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment if unable to pay the fine.
Meanwhile, another man, Brentnol Sagon, who also appeared before the magistrate on an assault charge was released on $10,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty.
The charge against Sagon stated that on July 2, 2022 at Kitty, Georgetown, he assaulted Ron Caesar, causing him actual bodily harm.
Sagon pleaded not guilty to the charge and bail was set at $10,000.
He will make his next court appearance on July 15.
