Dear Editor,
Some citizens might have been confused by the pictures of the Saudi conference in Guyana. The President and some of the men were dressed similarly in the traditional Saudi fashion. For some reason, the PPP thought it fitting that their leader should dress in the ghutra and the robe of the desert. Was it so that Guyana could and the world would see no difference between the Presidential aspirations and the Saudi values?
What is this intense excitement from the PPP about tying bundle with the Saudis? This urgency to give land for the embassy here when so many citizens are waiting on land. Has the PPP forgotten that other Saudi embassy, the site of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi? Saudi Arabia is proudly Sunni Muslim. They do not allow mandirs or other visible places of worship, holding to their one religion. Is that the kind of prosperity the ghutra-wearing President and the PPP want for their One Guyana?
Yours sincerely,
Vidyaratha Kissoon
