A 30-year-old gold miner was on Saturday night held at gunpoint and robbed of seven gold chains worth $1.1M while in his Sophia yard.
Police yesterday said an investigation is ongoing into the robbery which occurred about 19.20hrs at ‘B’ Field Sophia.
The police did not release the name of the victim.
He was allegedly robbed by three men, who were all armed with guns. They are yet to be apprehended.
According to a police report, enquiries revealed that the victim was standing in his yard when he noticed the bandits walking on the street.
The bandits suddenly turned into the victim’s yard where they held him at gunpoint and demanded that he hand over the gold chains which he was wearing.
However, the police said the victim refused and one of the perpetrators pulled off the chains from his neck.
The bandits then fled.
