A New York-based Guyanese couple died yesterday morning after they were involved in a car accident on Long Island, New York.
Dead are Travis Williams, 45, and Shenella Braithwaite, 35.
According to a New York Post report, the accident occurred around 01.15 am on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island, New York.
At the time, the report said Williams was driving at a “high rate of speed”.
According to the report, the New York State police said that Williams lost control of the car resulting in the accident.
“He veered off the road and smashed into a tree, causing his ride to catch fire,” the report quoted authorities saying.
Williams died on the spot while Braithwaite succumbed to her injuries at the Good Samaritan Hospital.
Following the accident, the car which the couple was in burst into flames.
“The crash left the black car completely engulfed in flames and the hood of the vehicle appeared blown off as firefighters worked the scene,” the report said.
An investigation is ongoing into the accident.
