Colin Venture, 31, is now awaiting sentencing after being unanimously convicted by a jury on all of the three counts against him for raping a 13-year-old girl on three separate occasions over a one-month period back in 2020.
Following hours of deliberations, the 12-member panel returned unanimous verdicts, finding Venture guilty on the first and second counts, of raping the child sometime between September 23rd and October 25th of 2020.
He then again raped the teen on October 26th.
Venture called “Dain,” was arraigned on charges of rape of a child under 16 years; the particulars of which stated that he sexually penetrated the teen.
Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall who presided over the trial, has deferred sentencing to July 27th, pending the preparation of probation and other social impact reports.
The state was represented by Prosecutors Cicelia Corbin, Caressa Henry and Paneeta Persaud.
The convict meanwhile, was represented by attorney Alaira Murphy-Goodman.
The trial proceedings were heard in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court of the High Court in Demerara.
