General Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Ian Alves, has confirmed that the GFF is still to remunerate the Golden Jaguars senior men’s roster their match-day fees for the 2022 Concacaf Nations League.
Alves during a brief comment said, “As soon as we are able to pay they will be paid. I cannot remember [the amounts owed] at the moment, but it will be paid at the earliest.”
Despite featuring in four matches in the 2022 Concacaf Nations League during the month of June, the GFF is yet to compensate the Golden Jaguars roster for their match-day fees, and has only partially paid them for their attendance at the Trinidad and Tobago training camp.
Guyana contested four matches in the confederation tournament. The squad defeated Montserrat and Bermuda [2-1] but suffered historic embarrassing losses to Haiti [2-6, and 0-6].
According to a source close to the Golden Jaguars programme, a timeline is yet to be established or confirmed as to when the players will receive their payment.
“The players went to them, and were told that the GFF is waiting on FIFA to send the money, this happened last Friday. “The GFF told the players that they can’t give a timeline, they are waiting on the money to be sent by FIFA. If FIFA doesn’t send the money in months, the players will simply have to wait,” the source told Stabroek Sport.
“It is estimated that the players are owed a combined hundreds of thousands. The players were not contacted by the federation and given any information as to when they will be paid, they had to visit the GFF’s office and inquire about their money. They were only given US200 for the 25 day period which consisted of the Trinidad and Tobago camp, and the four nations league games,” the source added.
Several of the players that are owed were suspended by the GFF for their participation in the unsanctioned Magnum Tonic Wine ‘Unfinished Business’ Futsal Tournament.
This is according to a release from the federation to its member associations, affiliates, and elite league clubs. According to the correspondence, which was dated June 19th and signed by General Secretary Alves, the suspended players, several of whom were part of the Nations League campaign, are: Jermaine Beckles, Jermaine Junior, Nicholas MacArthur, Colin Nelson, Darren Niles, Clive Nobrega, Hubert Pedro, Jamal Pedro, Eusi Phillips, Gregory Richardson, Pernell Schultz, Randolph Wagner, and Daniel Wilson.
