The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has said the recent installation of pipelines along the Merriman Mall is part of its ongoing work to update the aged Georgetown transmission network.
In a press release in response to queries by this newspaper, GWI explained that many of the transmission mains within the Georgetown pipe distribution network are approximately 100 years old and are prone to breakages, particularly under the weight of heavy-duty vehicles. As a result, GWI is continuing to replace and upgrade the old pipe infrastructure in the city, which was previously undertaken via works at Newtown, Kitty and Cemetery Road.
