A probe launched more than seven months ago into the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of 78-year-old Veronica Lewis still has investigators stumped.
The woman’s son on Monday told this newspaper that since his mother was struck down on Lamaha Street, in the vicinity of Waterloo Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown on November 29, 2021, no leads have come to light.
During the initial stages of the investigation, the woman’s son had said that he was told by someone that footage of the accident was captured, however, he is unaware as to what might have happened to the footage, since he never got to view it.
“We ain’t hear back nothing, the police them ain’t get back nothing. They said that some of the cameras in the area didn’t went working… and some people like they frighten to come out and say anything,” stated Michael Lewis when contacted.
According to the man, his mother was at the time running errands around central Georgetown when she died.
A release from the Guyana Police Force had stated that Lewis, who resided at Lot 411 Grove, East Bank Demerara, was standing on the southern side of Lamaha Street when an unknown vehicle struck her down and drove away.
As a result, the woman was left lying on the road with severe head and other injuries.
An ambulance was summoned and arrived shortly on the scene where an emergency medical technician (EMT) subsequently examined her and pronounced her dead.
