Dolphin and Golden Grove Secondary Schools secured semi-final berths in the Milo Secondary School Football Championship following convincing victories yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Dolphin Secondary dismantled President’s College 5-0. Caldwell Peters recorded a double in the 15th and 84th minute with Gerry Burnette adding a brace in the 24th and 86th minute. Adding to the rout in the 59th minute was Samuel Grant.
Similarly, Golden Grove crushed Friendship 4-1. Kelvin Richards bagged a double in the 20th and 67th minute, while Tyric Trotman, and Duwad Wilson found the back of the net in the 25th and 90th minute respectively. For the losers, Jamal Cordis netted in the 16th minute.
The event continues on Wednesday with the second round of quarterfinal fixtures at the same venue. At 16:00hrs, Cummings Lodge will lock horns with Christianburg/Wismar, while the second match will pit West Ruimveldt against North Ruimveldt at 18:00hrs.
The winners will advance to the semi-final section. The victor of the event will collect $300,000, the championship trophy, and gold medals. On the other hand, the runner-up will pocket $200,000, the corresponding accolade, and silver medals. The third place finisher will receive $100,000, a trophy, and bronze medals while the fourth place side will walk away with $75,000 and a trophy.
The most disciplined team will be awarded a trophy. On the individual side, the most valuable player (MVP) will receive a pair of cleats and a trophy, while the highest goal scorer will receive an identical prize package. The best goalkeeper will receive a pair of gloves and a trophy.
