The Guyana Under-17 boys team departed local shores yesterday morning for Trinidad and Tobago where they will compete in the Regional Under-17 tournament from tomorrow.
This year, the team will be led by Demerara all-rounder, Alvin Mohabir, who led his side to an unblemished championship run in the recent Guyana Cricket Board Inter-County tournament.
The Transport Sports Club off-spinner ended as the tournament’s leading bowler as well as the second highest run-getter behind Demerara Cricket Club’s Jonathan Van Lange who was the only player to score over 100 runs in the competition.
The team will also have the services of seasoned campaigners in former West Indies under-16 batsmen, Rampertab Ramnauth and Mavindra Dindyal as well as former national under-15 captain, Zachary Jodah. The team also features Nityanand Mathura, Gulcharran Chulai, Anthony Khan, Romeo Deonarain, Jadon Campbell, Kevin Kisten, Bruce Vincent, Dillon Ramsaroop and Sasenarine Harricharran. The team will be under the guidance of Head Coach, Garvin Nedd and Manager, Neil Rudder.
In pursuit of their maiden title at this level, Guyana will open their campaign against Barbados at the National Cricket Centre, Couva, before taking on Trinidad and Tobago in round two at Powergen on Thursday.
On Saturday Guyana will go up against Jamaica at Inshan Ali Park before battling Leeward Islands on July 25 at Gilbert Park. Their final match in the round-robin tournament will be on July 27 against Windward Islands at Gilbert Park.
The Guyana Cricket Board, in a press release wished the team well and urged the players to believe in themselves.
