A 23-year-old construction worker who allegedly stabbed 19-year-old Chrisgaichan Narine during a scuffle last week was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with murder.
Keon Carr of Lot 190 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
He is accused of murdering Narine on July 13th at Independence Drive in the vicinity of Third Avenue, Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.
Carr was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned to August 8 for report.
Narine called ‘Boy’ of Lot 137 Recht-Door-Zee, WBD was fatally stabbed during the incident which occurred around 16.50hrs.
Hours after, police acting on information received arrested Carr at West-minster, WBD.
The police in a statement had said enquiries revealed that Narine and his uncle were riding home on a bicycle while Carr was coming from the opposite direction on an electrical bike.
Carr approached Narine and his uncle and launched an attack on Narine, the police said.
Narine’s uncle ran away leaving him and the suspect scuffling. “As the uncle was running away, he turned around and saw the suspect (Carr) was armed with an orange-handled pair of scissors in his right hand,” police explained.
He allegedly stabbed Narine twice and escaped.
The uncle then picked up his bicycle in an attempt to take Narine to the police station but he collapsed on the road.
Narine was rushed subsequently rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he succumbed.
