All 320 booths and other spaces for the International Building Expo have been taken up and security plans finalised as the country gears up for the grand opening today at the National Stadium, Providence.
According to Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal, he had a meeting with senior members of the Guyana Police Force and had a walk-through of the exhibition site, finalising security arrangements to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at the Expo.
He said that he was excited at the major event which will showcase Guyana and its trajectory to the year 2030. The minister said that a time tunnel constructed at the Expo site, would take visitors through the expected developmental stages of Guyana from now to 2030.
He said 25 foreign companies are among those showcasing their products at the exhibition. Croal said he was pleased at the new technologies which are vital to the modernization of the building industry. According to him, information on every aspect of building would be readily available, whether it be design, construction and even loans accessibility.
Croal also stated that a number of banking institutions would be at the Expo, handling on- the-spot applications and pre-approvals for potential home owners. One banking institution is also running a competition where a pre-approved customer could win a new car during the Expo.
One piece of modern technology that is causing a buzz is the 3D printer that will be used to construct a home at the Expo. According to the Minister the printer will be one of the major attractions today.
Along with the 320 booths, all other spaces including on the food court have been taken, according Croal.
Furniture manufacturing companies, furniture stores and hardware stores would also be at the Expo.
A number of model houses would be on display. One such house made entirely from recycled materials would be sure to attract major attention, he said.
The International Building Expo will run from today to Sunday at the National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
