Daniel Singh, the man who allegedly pelted a Lance Corporal who tried to intercept him last week was on Wednesday charged and released on $400,000 bail.
Singh called ‘Anand’, 22, a labourer of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
He was charged with the offence of felonious wounding which was allegedly committed on Lance Corporal 21013 Edmondson last Saturday, July 16.
Singh was not required to plead to the charge. Bail was granted and he was asked to return to court on August 17.
Lance Corporal Edmondson is stationed at the Anna Catherina Police station. The incident occurred at about 6.15 pm at Anna Catherina.
The police had said that Edmondson was on traffic patrol duty in the vicinity of Anna Catherina with a force motor cycle when he observed a white canter, GDD 5340, driven by Singh, acting in a suspicious manner.
As a result, the police officer stopped the canter and asked Singh to produce his licence and other relevant documents.
Singh drove away and Edmondson chased behind him and apprehended him at his residence in Anna Catherina. There, the police said Singh’s father and sister allegedly held onto Edmondson and the canter driver picked up a brick and threw it at Edmondson hitting him in his right eye.
They then went into their house and locked it up. The police said that Edmondson was then taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital by the ranks of the Police Anti-Crime Patrol where he was examined by a doctor on duty and was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He later went to the St Joseph Mercy Hospital where a CT scan was done and he was admitted as a patient.
