Come August 13, seven stunning and vivacious young women will compete for the Miss Emancipation crown and title.
Each of the contestants, hailing from different parts of Guyana, will be given the opportunity to showcase their intelligence, elegance and appreciation of African culture.
The contestants are: Donelle Harvey, a Store Clerk, Shauntaé Washington an Encoder/Data Entry Clerk, Kayshell Jennings, a Public Relations Officer and medical student, Chaunté Eastman, a Producer/Radio Broadcaster, Ackila Smit, a Teacher and Disability Advocate, Runessa Williams, a Teacher and Sharmaine Nelson, an Insurance Clerk.
They will compete in the Business Attire, Evening Gown, Question and Answer segments and face a Final Question. They will also be creating their own spoken word renditions to introduce themselves.
The pageant, now in its tenth year, returns physically after a two-year hiatus and contestants have been in training since May during which time they have participated in several seminars on empowerment and African heritage.
The question and answer segment will be based on lessons from African heritage while the final question will touch on the sociopolitical and economics of the country.
This year’s pageant also includes a people’s choice category where patrons can vote for their favourite contestant by visiting the Miss Emancipation Facebook page and liking that contestant’s photograph.
The organisers are currently in the process of booking the venue and once confirmed it will be announced. Updates will be posted on the Facebook page.
