A United States-based Guyanese man is now dead after a driver allegedly fell asleep and crossed into his path as he was driving, resulting in a head-on collision in Gatesville, Texas, last Friday.
The dead man has been identified as 46-year-old Shem Munroe, of Medford, New York, according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety that was reported by the Killeen Daily Herald.
Meanwhile, the driver who fell asleep was a 58-year-old unidentified male of Gatesville and at the time he was driving a GMC pickup truck.
The Killeen Daily Herald said that Munroe was driving his Chevrolet Equinox along the Farm-to-Market 929 north of Gatesville, when the unidentified male, who was traveling northbound on FM 929 reportedly fell asleep, crossed into the southbound lane of incoming traffic and hit Munroe’s vehicle.
According to the Herald, Munroe was subsequently pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Coy Latham, while the driver of pickup truck was transported to Coryell Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
