It was reported the police officer who was assaulted with a brick to his eye and injured by a driver and his family has lost his sight (NewsRoom July 22). It was further reported that the incident occurred after the driver refused to stop when confronted by the police, drove away and was pursued to his home where the alleged assault took place.
It is reminiscent of another incident, not so long ago, where a driver was stopped by the police, but drove away. He too was pursued by the police and that incident ended fatally. Too often drivers stopped by law enforcement officers choose not to adhere, but take matters into their own hands with deleterious consequences. To the grieving policeman, may you one day overcome this dreadful incident strong, resolute and determined.
