On the heels of a century from Rampertab Ramnauth, Guyana secured a massive win over Trinidad in the ongoing Regional Under-17 tournament in the Twin-Island Republic.
Yesterday at Gilbert Park, Guyana defeated the hosts, by nine wickets. The visitors won the toss and inserted Trinidad who were contained to 202 for eight when their 50-overs ended. Guyana needed 46.1 overs to reach 206 for one.
In the chase, Ramnauth led the way with an unbeaten 104 from 127 balls. The opener lost his partner, Jadon Campbell for a second ball duck but went on to smash eight fours and two sixes.
Ramnauth added 96 for the second wicket with Mavindra Dindyal who raced to a 67-ball 50. He struck five boundaries before retiring not out.
Zachary Jodah joined Ramnauth and got their side over the line with a vital 36 not out from 82 balls, the pair sharing an unbroken 109-run stand.
Earlier Golcharran Chulai captured 3-29 and skipper, Alvin Mohabir, 2-26 as the Trinidadians just got over the 200-run mark.
Dindyal, Ramnauth and Bruce Vincent added a wicket each.
The previous day, Guyana defeated Barbados by eight wickets in the 20-over clash.
Guyana won the toss and inserted Barbados who were limited to 122 for five. Guyana, in their reply, reached 123 for two with three balls to spare.
Ramnauth top scored with 56 not out from 58 balls, his innings featuring five fours and two sixes. With Dindyal, he added an unfinished 88-run stand. Dindyal clubbed three fours and one six during his 45-ball 46 not out.
Earlier, Joshua Dorne top scored for Barbados with 38 from 40 balls before being bowled by Vincent who also accounted for Zion Brathwaite (28) to end with 2-15. Achilles Browne and Rashad Worrell chipped in with 23 and 19 respectively.
Guyana will battle Jamaica at Inshan Ali Park tomorrow.
Due to inclement weather, the tournament has been adjusted to feature three rounds of 50-over matches which conclude tomorrow followed by two rounds of T20 matches.
