The former Chief Executive Officer and board member of the Institute of Private Enterprise Development (IPED) Dr. Leslie Chin has died.
Chin’s death was announced by the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central (RCGC) yesterday. He died on Sunday at the age of 84.
“RCGC has lost a true visionary, a thinker, a founder-father of the Club, a dedicated Rotarian. We celebrate the life of PP [Past President] Leslie,” the club said in a statement.
Meanwhile, IPED said in statement, “As we extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, they can be assured that Dr. Leslie Chin will forever be alive in the IPED family as he was a true visionary leader.”
IPED stated that a book of condolence was opened at its head office and will remain open until July 29th.
Chin was also a long-serving Chairman of Sterling Products Limited (SPL). In a statement yesterday, SPL said Chin served on the board of Sterling Products with distinction.
“His visionary leadership and passion for development have been the catalyst for many significant achievements.
“Dr. Chin joined the Sterling family in 1993 and served as our Chairman for twenty-three years.
The Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of Sterling Products Limited express our condolences”, the company said.
The Chinese Association of Guyana also offered its condolences.
“Guyana has lost an icon. Someone who was a visionary thinker, who loved to think outside the box. He always had an idea to trial. He was a food scientist. He studied Biochemistry at the University of Aberdeen before completing his Ph.D. in Human Nutrition at the University of London. Dr. Chin was the consummate problem-solver. He was a people person and his concerns were not just about food and how to feed a nation, nay the world but how to keep people healthy, socially engaged and fulfilled. He was a leader and pretty good managing people and organisations. He sat on the boards of a diverse selection of companies, state entities and service organisations. He was a Rotarian in a very true sense who gave service above self”, the Association said.
