Government is seeking to renew the contract of Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Director General, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Egbert Field, whose term expires on August 2nd, 2022.
“As the Minister of Public Works, I have been informed via a letter from the Director General Field of the expiration of his current contract on August 2nd, 202. Mr Field’s letter is being addressed with the view to the renewal of the contract,” Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill disclosed in a statement issued on the Ministry’s Facebook page last night.
Edghill linked his disclosure to “views” being circulated on social media.
He said the Government employment practice is “solely based on meritocracy”.
“‘We do not subscribe to views that are peddled by some on the social media platforms that Mr Field is being forced out of his job because of politics’,” the statement said.
“As a government focused on the development of our country and the advancement of our people, we strive to ensure persons capable and competent are always serving in areas and offices to propel change and development,” it added.
The GCAA, Edghill said “needs professionals who will guide Guyana’s advancement in aviation”.
Field has been in the aviation sector for decades.
