Family members, friends and supporters of recently slain youth Quindon Bacchus on Saturday staged a peaceful protest from Ann’s Grove to Golden Grove, on the East Coast of Demerara, calling for more police to face charges in connection with his death.
Stabroek News saw scores of persons, including some with banners and placards, participating in the protest, which was peaceful. A previous protest in which many participated recently ended in unrest.
Bacchus, 23, a father of one, was shot and killed by a policeman on June 10 at Haslington New Scheme, also on the East Coast.
Bacchus’ family previously told this newspaper that they were continuing to protest after being informed that other officers besides those already charged were involved in the fatal shooting.
On July 5 Lance Corporal Kristoff De Nobrega, who is accused of the fatal shooting of Bacchus, was charged with his murder, while Lance Corporal Thurston Simon and Sergeant Dameion Mc Lennon were charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice by trying to cover up the manner in which Bacchus was killed.
