More than six weeks have elapsed and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) still has not paid the Golden Jaguars senior men’s roster their match-day fees for the 2022 Concacaf Nations League, which was staged from June 4 to14.
This was disclosed by a source close to the programme, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. According to the source, “They have not called the players and have not said anything. Since the last conversation with the players, no new discussions have been held as to when they will be paid. The GFF is silent on the issue, they have not contacted the players, and they are operating like everything is alright and like they don’t owe the players. Not even a timeline for the eventual payment has been established or communicated to the players.”
Efforts to contact the general secretary of the GFF, Ian Alves, were unsuccessful. Several calls to his phone over the course of two days went unanswered up to press time. Alves in an earlier interview with this publication on July 14, confirmed that the federation is still to remunerate the Golden Jaguars senior men’s roster their match-day fees for the 2022 Concacaf Nations League.
Despite featuring in four matches in the 2022 Concacaf Nations League, the GFF is yet to compensate the Golden Jaguars roster for their match-day fees, and has only partially paid them for their attendance at the Trinidad and Tobago training camp. Guyana contested four matches in the confederation tournament. The squad defeated Montserrat and Bermuda [2-1] but suffered historic embarrassing losses to Haiti [2-6, and 0-6].
Several of the players that are owed were suspended by the GFF for their participation in the unsanctioned Magnum Tonic Wine ‘Unfinished Business’ Futsal Tournament.
This is according to a release from the federation to its member associations, affiliates, and elite league clubs. According to the correspondence, which was dated June 19 and signed by General Secretary Alves, the suspended players, several of whom were part of the Nations League campaign, are: Jermaine Beckles, Jermaine Junior, Nicholas MacArthur, Colin Nelson, Darren Niles, Clive Nobrega, Hubert Pedro, Jamal Pedro, Eusi Phillips, Gregory Richardson, Pernell Schultz, Randolph Wagner, and Daniel Wilson.
