A recently released convict is now back behind bars after being remanded to prison on Friday on a charge of break and enter and larceny.
Dequan Parris, 19, a mason of Middle Road, La Penitence, was hauled before Georgetown Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, who read the charge to him.
It is alleged that on July 19, 2022, at Laing Avenue, while in the company of others, Parris broke and entered the dwelling house of Adrian Walker and stole a laptop, valued $120,000, a PlayStation 4, valued $100,000, a cellular phone worth $50,000, an iPhone cellular phone worth $45,000, a watch valued $25,000 and $100,000 in cash.
Parris was not required to plead to the charge.
He was then remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until September 2, 2022.
According to the police, the victim’s home was broken into while he was at work. When he arrived home, checks were made and he noticed that the items mentioned in the charge were gone. As a result, the matter was reported to the Police Station and an investigation was launched.
It was said that Parris’s uncle was found with one of the cell phones and he told police that he had received the said item from his nephew.
The accused, who was eventually apprehended and arrested, later admitted and confessed to stealing the items, the police allege.
It was also noted that Parris was recently released from prison after serving a one-year sentence for a similar offence.
