Some 25% of works have been completed on a critical new $26 million bridge along the Onderneeming Public Road, in Region Two.
The project has a deadline of September, 2022 and persons in the community are currently using a temporary access bridge built by the Regional Administration to facilitate traffic.
The new bridge replaces a dilapidated structure that posed a threat to commuters.
Region Two Chairperson Vilma Da Silva along with regional officials and regional engineers visited the site recently.
Da Silva said that despite the various challenges, she is satisfied with the current work. Da Silva said that the bridge is constructed based on several requests made by residents in the past.
She also said that the bridge when completed will facilitate the commencement of the first phase of the Onderneeming road. The 800-meter road project cannot commence until the bridge is completed.
The contract was awarded to Ramballi Construction through the Region Two Administration and is being closely monitored by the region.
Meanwhile, residents are satisfied with the construction works thus far and have called for timely completion of the bridge.
Persons living in the area are calling on the contractor to speed up the process since they believe the project can be completed much sooner than the deadline. This newspaper understands that the contractor’s work has been affected by the inclement weather.
“We want the project to be completed so that the Onderneeming road can commence. So we asking the contractor to speed up the work,” a resident said.
