Little Misses of the East Ruimveldt community will take centre stage next Saturday as they compete in the annual Kids Pageant. The pageant aims to serve as a platform to boost self-confidence and give the little misses an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The event will see girls aged six to 15 years old showcasing their talent, creativity, elegance and intelligence. The pageant will run in three categories from 6-8, 9-11 and 13-15 in different segments.“This is an opportunity for us as a community to help build the confidence of our girls and their self-esteem.
If we do it now, that will stay with them. So when they go out into the world and people say they are not beautiful, they will know it is not true,” organiser of the pageant Mellissa Cush said.According to her, the contestants are super excited to participate in the event as it is the first in two years. The first pageant was held in 2019 but it was then stalled due to the pandemic.Cush stated that while the pageant is being organised by the East Ruimveldt Giving Back Family, small businesses in the community have stepped forward to assist and play a part in the event.
“It is about giving the young people an opportunity and some exposure during the August holidays. So many people in the community have been stepping up to help in any way that they can and they are all excited to give this platform to the children,” she said. All contestants will be awarded for their bravery and participation in school supplies. The pageant will be held at Back Circle, East Ruimveldt and entry for spectators is free of cost.
