The opposition APNU+AFC is joining with the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) to hold a public rally tomorrow in Georgetown and is asking the public to come out in support as they speak on a range of issues including corruption, the cost of living and extrajudicial killings.
Tomorrow marks the second anniversary of the PPP/C government om office. Dubbed ‘Boots on the Ground’, the rally will take place at Burnham Court from 4:30pm, according to a flyer published on the APNU+AFC’s Facebook page.
“Come out and let’s rally against cost of living, corruption, extra judicial killings,” the flyer reads.
Listed among those who will be in attendance are Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton, WPA Executive David Hinds, AFC Executive Sherod Duncan and APNU+AFC parliamentarians Ganesh Mahipaul, Amanza Walton-Desir, Mervyn Williams, Geeta Chandan-Edmond and Juretha Fernandes.
APNU’s Buxton-based activist Kidackie Amsterdam will also be at the meeting.
Since the 2022 Budget was passed earlier this year, the Opposition has been lamenting that there are not enough measures to cushion the increase in the cost of living for persons here and at weekly press conferences, Norton continues to bemoan the issue.
The party also speaks on allegations of corruption and since the US VICE News broadcasts on allegations of bribery against Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, it has intensified those allegations against the government.
The Irfaan Ali government budgeted $5 billion to cushion the steep hikes but food and other commodity prices have been continuing to climb since April.
