Twenty-two-year-old Romel Alonzo who was initially arrested for threatening behaviour was rearrested after he led police to the discovery of a firearm.
According to a statement by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ranks in Regional Division #1 were probing the alleged threatening behaviour against a 38-year-old shopkeeper of Baramita, North West District last Sunday.
The man was informed of the complaint and was taken to the Baramita Police Station on Monday where he was questioned about the alleged threatening behaviour.
However, during the questioning, Alonzo divulged information which led ranks to accompany him to a bushy area at Baramita Line where the accused pointed out a small black bulky plastic bag which was on the ground in the bushes.
Upon opening the bag, a suspected .32 pistol without a magazine was seen.
The man was immediately escorted back to the police station along with the newly-discovered firearm where it was lodged.
Alonzo remains in custody as investigations continue.
