Memorializing events through rare historical memorabilia

Dear Editor,

I am a firm believer in preserving historic documents and memorabilia because there comes a time when those difficult to gather or retrieved data and those simple historic pieces can turn out to be a critical tool within education.

Allow me to publicly acknowledge one Mr. Fred Weston, based in England, who was very helpful in providing the following data which I am now sharing for your consideration in publishing one of British Guiana’s (now Guyana) accomplished athlete at the 6th British Empire and Commonwealth Games, Wales 1958. Before I proceed, allow me to mention that the father of Mr. Fred Weston was also a past educator at Queen’s College many years ago.

Mr. R. McArthur (British Guiana) earned the silver medal in the Weightlifting middleweight class with total of 795 pounds. I attach a clipping with the photo image of the athlete in question for viewing to all. I also hope family members or relatives of the athlete in question would take this opportunity to memorialize something historic.

Sincerely,

T. Pemberton
