This hotel has lost its aura

Dear Editor,

I visited the hotel in Kingston, not the spanking new one, but the original one with the same name, with some friends for an afternoon sojourn. The first thing observed upon entering the hotel was the drab, dull appearance of the foyer/reception area.  This part of the hotel seemed lusterless and cheerless.  Gone was the glossy, glazed, posh look of the area.  We made our way to the poolside and the sight there was less appealing.  The entire area is in need of a facelift and upgrade. The lone waiter was doubling and trebling as waiter, server and it seemed, barman.  He must be complimented for scurrying around satisfying the requests of customers. All in all, while we made the afternoon pleasant, this popular hotel has lost its sparkle, shine, aura, ambience and in general, its life.  Is this well-known edifice now relegated to the step child syndrome?

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
