Jessica Callender secured a victory, while Nellisha Johnson drew her encounter during their fifth round matches against Malawi at the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad being held at the Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Centre, in Chennai, India, according to a Guyana Chess Federation release.
Callender defeated Tupokiwe Msukwa. In other match-ups, the 1093 ranked Johnson battled to a stalemate against Linda Jambo, who is rated 1426. In the Men’s division, FIDE Master Anthony Drayton drew his match against Uatiavi Jossy Uapingene to earn a half point, as the Guyanese went down to the Namibians. The trio of Taffin Khan, Loris Nathoo and Ethan Lee suffered defeats in their fixtures.
The Women’s team of Callender, Johnson, Anaya Lall, and Sasha Shariff will now oppose 151st seed Central African Republic. Meanwhile, the Guyanese men are slated to face-off with Gabon which is seeded 169th. They will comprise Taffin Khan, Loris Nathoo, Roberto Neto and Ethan Lee.
