Thirty-six-year-old Linton Davidson who was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl on six occasions 10 years ago, was yesterday acquitted on all charges when a jury returned not guilty verdicts.
Following hours of deliberations, the 12-member panel was unanimous on all six counts, finding Davidson not guilty of the charges which had been levelled against him.
The man whose growing relief was evident as the foreman announced the verdicts for each of the six counts, was then told by trial Judge Simone Morris-Ramlall that he was “free to go.”
The Prosecution’s case presented by State attorneys Cicelia Corbin, Caressa Henry and Paneeta Persaud had been that Davidson; between the years 2012 and 2013 raped the teen on six occasions.
She was at the time between the ages of 13 and 14.
Davidson meanwhile, was 27 years old.
Following the alleged assaults, the matter was reported to the police, an investigation was launched and the now former-accused was arrested and charged.
Davidson was represented by defence attorney Dexter Todd.
The trial proceedings were held in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court of the Demerara High Court.
