Twenty-two families who were affected by a Ministry of Housing and Water demolition exercise in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10, received monetary compensation packages on Thursday.
According to a press release from the Central Housing and Planning Authority, in May, during a demolition exercise at Phase 4, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, two houses, as well as other structures, including fences and foundations were removed.
The structures, according to the release, were in the path of an access road. Some of the affected persons have been offered house lots, while two have opted for housing units.
Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal, in presenting the cheques to the families, thanked them for their patience and pledged that the ministry would continue working to fulfill the housing demand in Region 10.
The release stated that following the demolition exercise, CH&PA Chief Executive Officer Sherwyn Greaves met with persons who were squatting in the area, and offered lands and alternative housing options which were accepted.
