The Guyana Amazon Warriors are currently fine-tuning their preparations for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Currently, the training contingent features six of their players under the orders of assistant coach, Ryan Hercules. The unit has been training at the National Stadium and will continue to do so before heading over to St. Kitts shortly for the start of the tournament.
The players involved include powerful opener, Chandrapaul Hemraj and West Indies test vice-captain, Jermaine Blackwood along with Veerasammy Permaul, Ronsford Beaton, Junior Sinclair and Matthew Nandu.
The rest of the squad comprises Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Shai Hope, Gudakesh Motie, Colin Ingram, Paul Stirling, Heinrich Klaasen, Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi.
Stabroek Sport visited the session yesterday.
Speaking to this newspaper, Matthew Nandu said he was happy to be part of the tournament and was looking forward to a positive season.
“We’ve got a few sessions in already and the training has been both intense and fun. The group is gelling well and we enjoy each other’s success,” Nandu said while adding, “For me, I’m just looking to learn as much as I can and execute what is in the best interest of the team.”
Amazon Warriors have finished runner-ups on five occasions and will begin another title hunt on September 3 against Jamaica Tallawahs.
