Superb bowling performances from off-spinners, Jonathan Rampersaud and Mavindra Dindyal saw Guyana beating Trinidad and Tobago by 41 runs in the opening round of the Cricket West Indies Regional Under-19 tournament.
At Park Hill, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana posted 179 all out in 89.5 overs with Tomani Caesar top scoring with 59. He was supported by Zeynul Ramsammy with 43 not out and Zachary Jodah with 29. Nichk Ramlal was the pick of the bowlers with 4-39 and Andrew Rambaran chipped in with 2-24.
Trinidad responded with 146 all out in 44.5 overs with Rampersaud bagging 6-44 as Dindyal complimented with 2-17. Rambaran top scored with 32 while cameos came from Narad Kissoondath (31), Rajeev Ramnath (27) and Justin Jagessar (22).
With a marginal lead of 33, Guyana were routed for 160 in 59.1 overs during their second innings with opener, Rampertab Ramnauth falling one short of a fine half century. Shamar Yearwood supported with 30 and Rampersaud was left stranded on 17 not out. Vasant Singh took 3-36 and Joshua Davis ended with 2-33.
Needing, 193 to win, Trinidad were bowled out for 152 in 48.2 overs, just before rain came. Kissondath top scored with 47 while Orlando James and Ramlal made 29 and 26 respectively. Dindyal was the pick of the bowlers, with 4-24 and Rampersaud took 2-50. Guyana takes on Leeward Islands in the second round from today.
