Who will join the Colins?

Congratulations to young West Indies left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie on claiming his career best One Day International (ODI) figures of four 4-23 against Bangladesh at the Providence Stadium, East Bank Demerara.

A great achievement for a lad only in his third ODI. Interestingly, Motie narrowly missed out on joining his two compatriots, pacers Colin Croft and Colin Stuart, who are the only Guyanese bowlers to capture five wicket hauls in the format for the West Indies.

Legendary fast bowler Croft destroyed the touring Englishmen at Arnos Vale Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 1981 in a mesmerizing spell of 6-17 that propelled the Clive Lloyd led West Indies to an unforgettable victory.

Similarly, Stuart, who was eight years old when Croft recorded the aforementioned feat, achieved his ODI best figures of 5-44 against Kenya in Nairobi in 62001.

Below illustrates the other Guyanese who have missed out on joining this small group.

Roger Harper – ODI – 4-40 vs England – Queens Parks Oval, Trinidad and Tobago -1994.

Carl Hooper- ODI – 4-34 vs Pakistan – Karachi, Pakistan – 1991.

Reon King – ODI – 4-25 vs Pakistan – Queens Park Oval, Trinidad and Tobago – 2000.

Mahendra Nagamootoo – ODI – 4-32 vs Zimbabwe – Adelaide, Australia – 2001
