Minister of Foreign Affairs Hugh Todd on Monday held a teleconference with Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
A release from the ministry yesterday said that during the exchange, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister thanked President Irfaan Ali and the people of Guyana for standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and for supporting the resolutions on Ukraine in the United Nations General Assembly and the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Guyana had been criticised for abstaining on an April 7th United Nations General Assembly vote suspending Russia from the UN Human Rights Council over reports of “gross and systematic violations and abuses of human rights” by invading Russian troops in Ukraine.
The release said that Todd and Kuleba exchanged views on key issues including diplomacy, respect for international law and human rights, and the peaceful resolution of disputes and controversy.
The two Foreign Ministers noted that Guyana and Ukraine share mutual values with respect to international law and are committed to the principles and Charter of the United Nations, including the promotion of peace and stability and the use of international mechanisms for settling disputes and controversy.
