Guyana failed to qualify for the elimination round out of Group-B at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, incurring mixed results in their concluding two pool matches yesterday at the Karatay Congress and Sports Centre to finish in 9th place.
Requiring victories in their remaining fixtures to keep their hopes alive, Guyana went down to eventual group winner and unbeaten outfit Iran 21-12 in their third outing. Harold Adams top scored with seven points, while Nikkoloi Smith, and Stanton Rose tallied three and two points respectively.
The Guyanese would end their group stage campaign with a 22-12 victory over Maldives. Rose led the way with seven points, while Adams, Travis Belgrave and Smith scored five points apiece.
Guyana finished the tournament with a record of two wins and as many losses. They defeated Mauritania 18-17 but lost to Uganda 15-18 in their earlier fixtures.
