Shuman calls for overseas police aid to probe Bascom claims

Lenox Shuman

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Lenox Shuman today called for external police assistance to help investigate stunning claims by police detective Dion Bascom over the probe of the murder of Ricardo Fagundes last year.

In a post on his Facebook page, Shuman said:  “It is my humble view that to shed any and all doubt of the integrity of the good officers of the GPF, the public personality, and to reinforce the GPF’s findings, the GPF should ask the ABCEU to assist with the investigation via the FBI, RCMP and or Scotland Yard”.

Shuman is the Leader of the Liberty and Justice Party which shares a seat in Parliament.

Bascom’s claims have raised questions about the need to provide him with protection under the Protected Disclosures Act. The government has not yet acted on this.

The Guyana Police Force has vehemently denied Bascom’s claims that senior members of the force have been involved in the cover-up of Fagundes’ killing.
