Jamaica continues to do the Caribbean proud by holding its place as a global leader in the tourism sector.

A recent Reuters report informed that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member state had been decorated within two categories of the global Travel and Leisure World’s Best Awards, 2022.

Apart from being rated among the twenty five Best Islands in the region, the island has also been ranked among “the 25 Best Resort Hotels in the Region”, higher than any other island nation appearing on the list.

Responding to the citations, the island’s Director of Tourism, Donavan White, was quoted as saying that “earning high marks in these two categories of such prestigious awards” was “a testament to the continued strength and appeal of our tourism product to travellers.”

Last week Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, announced that the country’s economically important tourism sector had made an almost complete recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jamaica had reportedly been  one of the early ‘frontrunners’ in the reopening of its tourism industry, taking the bold move of re-opening the island to visitors as early as June 2020 when the pandemic at a time was raging across the region.
