Pouderoyen FC and Slingerz recorded contrasting victories, when the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued on Friday evening at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
Pouderoyen overcame a 0-1 deficit to prevail 2-1 over traditional rival Uitvlugt. Pouderoyen fell behind in the 11th minute, as Jamaal Petty found the back of the net. Racing into the penalty box between the two defenders, Petty upon latching onto a left-sided cross, directed his header into the far corner.
However, the lead proved to be short-lived for Uitvlugt, as Stephon Jupiter restored parity to proceedings in the 24th minute. It was a moment of individual brilliance, as Jupiter dribbled his marker before cutting into the penalty box, and lobbing the ball over the advancing goalkeeper into the roof of the net.
Chad Matthews then fashioned the go-ahead winner in the 74th minute to complete the comeback. Jupiter was the architect of the conversion, as he unleashed a right-sided cross that evaded the backline and fell into the path of Matthews, who slotted home unchallenged inside the left of the penalty area.
Meanwhile, Slingerz FC mauled Belle West 13-0. Delon Lanferman led the thrashing as he amassed a six-goal haul in the seventh, 28th, 29th, 50th, 73rd, and 78th minute, while Deon Alfred tallied a brace in the 40th and 60th minute.
Adding goals in the 12th, 19th, 22nd, 52nd and 78th minute respectively were Akel Clarke, Jamal Harrigon, Leo Lovell, Dexroy Adams, and Neron Barrow.
