The Head of State made the statement as he delivered the feature address at the commissioning of the new facility, according to a release from the Office of the President.

A statement today from the Central Housing and Planning Authority said that the well will serve some 3500 customers and has a design life cycle of 30 years.

A larger percentage of the island will now enjoy improved water supply from every 3 days to 24 hrs/day with a high level of service (standard 5 meters). In another 3 months, the village of Ridge will be served by the well, following some extension work, the statement said.

It added that the well is a significant achievement and is the first coastal deep water well drilled with GWI’s in-house capacity in over 35 years.

The Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal; the Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues; GWI CEO, Shaik Baksh and other Government and regional officials were also at the event.
