Eleven students were introduced to the basics of banking when they participated in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited’s first work-study programme, which lasted from July 11 until August 19, 2022.
The students were from the Pure Master’s Academy and Covent Garden Secondary School.
In a press release, the bank said the students were grateful for their experience and said that it taught them discipline and how to operate in a professional working environment. Some of them expressed an interest in wanting to work for the bank.
“This is the bank’s way of providing an introduction to the world of work for the students while at the same time being positioned as part of the Bank’s [Corporate Social Responsibility] initiatives,” the release said.
It further noted that the bank is known for providing spaces that allows youths to express themselves, such as through art with the GBTI Calendar Competition, or to exercise their creativity by taking part in the bank’s Early Savers Summer Camp. The bank has also opened its Tennis Courts in the Diamond Branch to allow for the Guyana Tennis Association to mentor youngsters in that area and to develop their tennis skills further.
The release added that the work study programme will become an annual feature for the bank as it continues to provide opportunities for young people to develop.
