Approximately 45 households in Kaikan, Region Seven, have been affected by severe flooding due to heavy rainfall, according to Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams, who says that evacuation of affected households was continuing up to last night. In a brief statement, the Regional Democratic Council said it was awaiting a preliminary assessment of the “hardest hit areas” and will urgently collaborate with the Civil Defence Commission to help bring relief for beleaguered residents in the border community. Kaikan, which has a population of some 200 persons, is located in the Upper Mazaruni close to the Brazil border. In photo is one of the homes inundated by floodwaters in Kaikan.
