Guyana secured wins in the Men’s and Women’s team sections respectively, while suffering a loss in the veteran’s division, when the XXVII Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Team Championships started yesterday in Jamaica.
In the men’s section, Guyana overcame the Cayman Islands 3-2. Samuel Ince-Carvahal defeated Kasun Abeysekera 11-6, 11-5, 11-2, Daniel Ince downed Jace Jervis 11-9, 11-7, 11-5, and Jason Ray-Khalil defeated Jake Kelly 11-7, 11-4, 11-7. However, Shomari Wiltshire lost to Julian Jervis 0-11, 1-11, 7-11, and Alex Arjoon suffered defeat against Cameron Stafford 4-11, 11-3, 6-11, 4-11.
In the women’s division, Guyana dismantled Trinidad and Tobago 5-0. Victoria Arjoon downed Tessa Martin 11-6, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, while singles champion Ashley Khalil brushed aside Marie Claire Barcant 11-6, 11-2, 11-2. Akeila Wiltshire defeated Chloe Walcott 11-2, 11-6, 11-7, while Taylor Fernandes overcame Alexandria Yearwood 11-8, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8. Abosaide Cadogan won via walkover
In the veteran’s pool, Guyana lost to Jamaica 1-4. Guyana’s only win in the section was secured by Ramon Chan-A-Sue who downed Bruce Levy 11-9, 11-0, 12-10. Michelle Low lost to Gill Binnie 1-11, 4-11, 4-11, whilst Tian Edwards succumbed to Karen Anderson 1-11, 1-11, 0-11, and Brian Yong went down to Joey Levy 4-11, 9-11, 8-11. Chris Bicknell also won via walkover.
