Please allow us to highlight some of the lawless and lackadaisical, bias and victimizing behaviour by a senior Maritime monitor at Parika stelling. This monitor is one of 3 Maritime monitors at the Parika stelling, who are placed there to overlook safety operations. There are two associations, Parika/Bartica and Parika/Supenaam/Wakenaam. Now these associations have their monitors that overlook the daily operations and rotation of vessels within the association.
The monitor in question is allowing his close associates to break all the rules and regulations and if anyone speaks out they are victimized and targeted; he even called in the police to harass operators without the knowledge and permission of his superiors. The monitor is often heard using indecent language while in uniform. He abuses his office, using his position to exploit individuals who wish to become operators. Many complaints were made to MARAD regarding his behaviour but nothing seems to have been done about it. He would often say the Minister told him that if anyone tells him anything let him know because he and that Minister is family.
The monitor is close friends with the out of system boat operators and owners, he covers for them whenever complaints are made against them. The out of system boats operate without a crew and are unlicensed and the monitor allow these vessels to operate daily without any attention being directed to them. He is fighting down the legal vessels that operate in the legitimate and registered system.
