Guyana continued their dominant and unbeaten showing in the Men and Women sections, while the Veteran’s unit remained winless in the Team Championships of the XXVII Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in Jamaica yesterday.
In the Men’s pool, Guyana crushed Barbados 4-1. Nyron Joseph won via walkover to give Guyana the perfect start. Daniel Ince then defeated Stewart St. John 11-1, 11-9, 11-6 to make it 2-0.
However, Shomari Wiltshire lost to Khamal Cumberbatch 4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 7-11 as the Barbadians reduced the deficit. Nonetheless, Alex Arjoon downed Shawn Simpson 14-12, 11-6, 3-11. 12-10 to clinch the win at 3-1. Jason Ray-Khalil dismissed Darien Benn 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 to complete the rout.
The Guyanese then blanked Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in their second fixture. Joseph defeated Zachary Loquan 11-2, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, whilst Ince downed Seth Thong 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6, and Wiltshire bested Chayse Mcquan 12-10, 11-9, 11-3. Alex Arjoon and Ray-Khalil won via walkovers.
Similarly, Guyana dismantled the Cayman Islands 5-0. Akeila Wiltshire crushed Kali McLean 11-3. 11-2, 11-5, while Victoria Arjoon overcame Courtney Stafford 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9, and Ashley Khalil defeated Jade Pitcairn 11-8, 11-8. 11-3.
Taylor Fernandes then downed Emma Turnbull 14-12, 11-7, 11-5, and Ashley DeGroot brushed aside Michaela Rensburg 11-3, 11-5, 11-7.
In the veteran’s division, Guyana lost to Trinidad and Tobago 2-3. Ramon Chan-A-Sue defeated Peter Pirthseesingh 11-3, 11-5, 8-11, 11-1, and Tian Edwards defeated Diane Julien 11-8, 11-7, 11-4. However, Michelle Low lost to Cathy Martin 6-11, 3-11, 1-11 and Brian Yong lost to John Holley 9-11, 11-4, 6-11, 13-15. Richard Hart won via walkover to secure the win for the twin-island.
