Skeletal remains were yesterday morning discovered along the Eversham, Corentyne foreshore and they are suspected to be that of a missing Suriname fisherman.

According to information gathered by this newspaper, a farmer, who was on the foreshore at Eversham Village, Corentyne around 08:00 hrs yesterday noticed some crows circling an area. He then decided to go closer to the area where the badly decomposed remains, clad in what appeared to be a torn tracksuit, were found.

Villagers and police were then informed after which lawmen removed the remains and launched an investigation.

However, a Suriname family has since reached out to investigators in Berbice informing them that they suspect that the remains might be that of the missing Wazir Shaw, 45, a fisherman who has been missing since August 9.

Shaw although born in Guyana moved to Suriname as a young boy with his family and he spent most of his life there.

According to his niece in Suriname, Sarika Nesah, her uncle left home to fish in a small boat but after he failed to return home several searches were launched and his boat was eventually discovered drifting in Guyana’s waters.

Nesah explained, that after news broke yesterday of the discovery of the remains, they immediately suspected that they were that of their uncle since he reportedly left home with a tracksuit as well.

However, she said, that they are making arrangements to identify the remains in the early week.

She explained that her uncle had an accident some time ago and had a surgery done on his left leg where steel plates were inserted and she was hopeful of using them to identify the remains.
