Dear Editor,
This past week I was dumbfounded by the decision making of Citizens’ Bank Management. I emailed the bank’s Credit Card department for them to debit my savings account and apply it to my credit card. I was speechless when a representative called to inform me that they would have to charge me GYD $1,000 to make the transaction. But that is not what most amused me. The representative further stated that if I went into the bank to make the transaction it would be free of charge. Where are we going as a country if we are heavily taxed for innovation? This fee of $1,000 is the absolute highest I have ever come across and it is outright robbery since it is free over the counter at the teller. Where is the Bank of Guyana in the oversight of these burdensome overcharges? Maybe this is how the bank manages to pump out its enormous profits each year, by overcharging their customers for a transaction that is actually a free service.
Sincerely,
