Dindyal hits ton, Guyana U19 draws with Jamaica U19

Despite a spirited century from Mavindra Dindyal, Guyana drew their fourth-round clash with Jamaica in the ongoing West Indies U19 championships.

Guyana won the toss and inserted Jamaica who posted 284 all out in 81.4 overs before responding with 300 for eight declared in 89 overs. Jamaica then saw the match to a close on 171 for eight after 48.3 overs.

Guyana’s innings was highlighted by Dindyal who smashed two sixes and 15 fours during his 261-ball 138.

After losing both openers without scoring, Dindyal was forced to rebuild and shared a 128-run partnership with Shemar Yearwood. Yearwood notched up 63 from 107 balls while hitting three sixes and four fours along the way.

When Yearwood departed, Dindyal was joined by Isai Thorne who raced to 46 from 53 balls. His innings featured three sixes and three fours as the pair added 84 for the seventh wicket.

Reon Edwards was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-56 while Sherwayne Thomas bagged 2-49.

Jamaica’s first innings was controlled by Justin Beckford who made 83 from 128 balls. He added 47 for the fourth wicket with Jordan Johnson who made 48 from 59 balls before both of the batsmen were dismissed by off-spinner, Jonathan Rampersaud (2-67).

Cameos also came from Jose Northover (27), Sanjay Walkar (24) and Thomas (21). Thorne took 3-59 as Sandiha bagged 2-47.

In Jamaica’s second innings, Sandiha and Rampersaud dominated with four and three wickets respectively.

Beckford top scored again with 39 from 92 balls with support coming from Adrian Weir (32), Steven Wedderbud (26) and Walkar (25).
