Guyana clinched the overall team title in the XXVII Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships, as they secured the Men and Women team section with an unbeaten record on the final day in Jamaica.
In the Men’s division, Guyana squeaked past Jamaica 3-2. Alex Arjoon downed Julian Morrison 11-6, 11-3 11-5 in the first match to seize a 1-0 lead. However, Daniel Ince lost to Bruce Burrowes 7-11, 5-11, 10-12, as the Jamaicans equalised 1-1.
Shomari Wiltshire was then defeated by Chris Binnie 8-11, 2-11, 8-11, as Jamaica seized a 2-1 lead. However, Jason Ray-Khalil downed Tahjia Lumley 11-9, 5-11, 16-14, 11-6 to restore parity to proceedings. Samuel Ince-Carvahal then overcame Stephan Morrison 11-13, 8-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-2 to secure the title.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s division, Guyana crushed Jamaica 5-0. Taylor Fernandes made light work of Savannah Thomson 11-2, 11-4, 11-4, while Akeila Wiltshire dismissed Sanjana Nallapati 11-6, 11-2, 11-3, and Ashley Khalil downed Mia Todd 11-4, 11-2, 11-5. Ashley DeGroot brushed aside Melissa Lue Yen 11-4, 11-2, 11-2, and Abosaide Cadogan mauled Mia Lake 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.
In the veteran’s section, Guyana lost to the Cayman Islands to end their campaign winless. Ramon Chan-A-Sue won via walkover. However, Brian Yong lost to Keith Higgins 3-11, 11-13, 3-11, Michelle Low went down to Marlene West 1-11, 5-11, 0-11, and Tian Edwards was defeated by Lori-Ann Foley 3-11, 5-11, 2-11
