The name Mervyn Anthony is probably unknown to the present day golfers competing at the Lusignan Golf Course. At 18 years old in 1969 this MacKenzie wonder boy won all the major golf championships on local shores.
The following year at 19 years of age, he convincingly won the Guyana National Championship held at the MacKenzie Golf course. He bested a field of 35 which included outstanding competitors such as Slim Eastman, Maurice Chee-a-Tow, Chris Gonsalves, Dick Bolton, and Jaden Hartog.
Anthony has won almost every tournament at MacKenzie and Lusignan. He has twice clinched the MacKenzie Open, the UNI Royal competition in 1969 and the club Championship in 1970.
